The Thick Table Tavern

One dream. Fourteen days. Serve drinks and gather enough tips to make it happen in time. Or choose chaos and mix whatever you feel like, damned the consequences.

This game was created for the 28th Edition of the IF Comp. Further updates are to be expected in the future (TBA).

Features:

  • A Story Mode with 6 Endings, 3 difficulty levels for the mixing components, and randomly generated paths.
  • An Arcade Mode, where you can mix drinks to your heart's content, with 3 game types: Endless, Perfection and Timed.
  • Play with mouse or keyboard (press H for the Key-bind menu).

Content warning: mention and use of alcohol, mention of violence, lewd language and swearing, animated text and background (can be toggled off)

Note on Mobile: While it is technically possible to play the game on mobile, the game has not been designed with mobile format in mind. Please take this into account when playing.

Bugs:

  • If you encounter a bug, please send a report to manonamora.games@gmail.com
  • If you encounter a GroundHog Day-type of bug (where the event of the day repeats itself), this is a known cache issue. The only fix is to empty your cache (and lose your progress).

Positives

  • We need more nice bosses and colleagues we can goof around at around with in our lives and interactive fiction games.
  • I appreciate the in between break time from reading. Mixing drinks and doing everyday bartender tasks was a calming experience.
  • This may be just my personal taste but I like the idea of each day starting out the same outside the tavern and only changing when inside it.
  • The random events popping up on each day made the story more fun and unpredictable. Just like life, you never know what will hit you.
  • The new adventurer's nervousness reminded me of myself on my first day at work. A few lines compared to other characters but those lines conveyed a lot about his emotional state at the moment.

Negatives:

  • Tutorial in the Arcade doesn't work properly
  • Roscoe needs to cool it with deducting coins every time i hit the tavern sign (what? I like how it swings)
  • I want MOAR, gimme MOAR content!

Thank you for the kind comment :)
Glad you enjoyed yourself and the story!

Regarding the Negatives:
- I know, I don't know why it's doing this. Something in the code is not working. I'm looking into it :)
- Nope. He might even increase it... (/jk)
- It will come :)

Ngl the Arcade Mode was a blast. After 3 times I finally managed to make 40 drinks in the timed mode. Thanks for the fun Manon

My new goal is to make 60 drinks before the timer runs out.

FINALLY REACHED MY "60 DRINKS" GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I worked my backside to get it (it's been 2 hours of replaying it over and over again😭.  I blame it on my "reach the game goal at all costs" attitude😅

Finally it's playable in itch.io! I was waiting to play it here and I'm glad I was able to. Really creative style and beautiful graphics btw. The opening is good but I'm liking the feel and the vibes that the old paper gives to the whole reading experience. The little kids and the boss's interaction and Filessandro's diss verses were among my most liked moments in the game.

p.s and i didn't get the groundhog day bug
