The Ritual awaits...

Are you ready to make your choice? The one that will shape the rest of your life? Or will regret the roads not taken?

This game was submitted to the 2023 Edition of the SpringThing, an IF festival. You can find all entries  here!

This was my first attempt at creating a parser. And because I don't like to do things the easy way, this was created in Twine (which is more a program to create a choice-based/hypertext stories)!
Note: if you get a pop up error that the game can't process the command before `#textbox` is missing, just try a different command first. I will fix it when I can....
I also know there are quite a few issues with the parser. I have some idea on how to fix it but haven't gone around to just yet. sorry about that. thank you for your patience.

For the life of me I can't get past:

"Initiate X,” a croaky voice declared. “Come closer.”

Your throat tightened.

That's because I let a bug slide. It is now fixed!
Sorry about this

I got what I consider the best ending on my first try! And actually did what MC wanted the very last time. So I basically got best ending first, then MC incompetent ending, then two rejected endings, then adequate ending, then another incompetent ending then finding out what happens if MC actually says it ending!

Oh fun :)
Though every ending can be a bad or good ending depending on how you read them. :P
Hope you had fun trying to find them all nonetheless!

tried all the routes i was given at the end... surprised i chose (imo) the best ending the first time :)

should i assume that for different actions, the ending text for each option also differs?

Some endings are not as happy as others, indeed.
I am not sure what you mean by different actions affecting the ending text? Do you mean depending on what you do before you reach the final choice? If that is the case, not at this stage.

Yes that's what I meant :)

Hey, I'm playing on PC (Chrome Browser) and the UI looks like this without playing on fullscreen mode

Is the title supposed to be so high up like that?

Also, wanted to ask whether "this forced stillness...." is one of the endings?

That's not an ending. Try 'stand' or 'jump' for different paths.

If the height of your screen is lower than 800px it does seem to do weird things indeed...
I'll look into fixing it, but in the meantime best to either use fullscreen or the zoom-out function of your browser (you can then adjust the size of the font in the game settings)
