Summer of Translations - English/Nederlands!
Hallo Iedereen!
Een beetje laat, maar het is endelijk hier~ Mijn excuses! Vorige week had ik de vertalling voor Bon Dieu ! Et une lessive aussi ? gedaan, voor De Zomer van Vertalingen! Nu is het beschikbaar in het Engels EN in het Nederlands!
Seventh entry for The Summer of Translation - my summer project where I attempt to translate as many of my projects to Dutch, releasing one a week. We’ve now reached the half-way point of this project, with another double translations: English and Dutch. Again, I’m a bit late, but that’s because I overestimated the amount of free time MelS had last week (and he proofreads the nightmarish texts I sent him, poor thing).
A bit about Bon Dieu ! Et une lessive aussi ?, since I haven’t talked much about this piece before. Submitted to Neo-Twiny Jam (from last year), this one was only in French at first. I try to include at least one entry either in French only or translated to French during the jam, even if I know it will usually not be played by many.
This was my second time using the French IF choice engine Moiki, which works amazing for tiny simple stories (with some choices/branching, but nothing quite as complex at the Cloak of Darkness port I did. With the translation, I fixed a couple of things and added a theme switch between sections.
It is a bit of an absurd and also banale story: you wake up one morning hearing strange noise on the other side of your bedroom door, only to find something you never thought of ever seeing (I won’t spoil the surprise ;) ). It’s very silly, and admittedly inspired by a conversation with my mother-in-law (egg on my face and all). I tried to make it a biiiiiiit more dramatic than what happened IRL, for funsies.
During editing, I managed to confuse MelS a couple of times, with typos that definitely could have been Freudian slips… (turns out paart is an actual word that has nothing to do with praat), and choices of words from my dictionary that brought up the drama to 10000% (trying to find the translation for retort I ended up writing getting revenge, which… no). Also found out that lending an ear is translated as open your ear, so that’s neat! Very literal Dutch can be… xD
Anyways… I should get back to this week’s translation… Have fun playing this one!
